Description
CMT Solution (California Mastitis Test Solution) is a practical on-farm screening solution used to assess somatic cell levels in milk and support the early identification of potential udder health problems.
During testing, a small milk sample from each udder quarter is placed into the corresponding section of a CMT paddle or test dish. The CMT solution is then added and gently mixed with the milk. Within a few seconds, the consistency of the mixture can be visually evaluated.
The reaction becomes progressively more noticeable as cell levels increase. Milk with a low cell level remains relatively fluid, while milk with elevated cell levels develops increasing streaking, thickening, or a jelly-like consistency. This provides farmers with a simple way to identify individual quarters that may require closer attention.
CMT Solution is particularly useful as part of a routine mastitis-control and udder-health management program, helping dairy farmers monitor their herd and identify potential problems at an early stage.
